Lesson Structure
The lessons are structured around the reading of selections. They are broken up into three sections:

Before Reading
Students are provided with the information and tools that they need to succeed in reading the lesson’s selection. Preparation includes learning the phonics, phonemic awareness, and word analysis skills students need in order to decode the selection. Student practice these skills by reading words, sentences, and ministories to prepare for the lesson’s main selection.

During Reading
Students apply skills they have just learned to read the lesson’s selection. The decodable Little Books provide practice with newly acquired phonics skills and also offer enough content to develop students’ comprehension skills.

After Reading
Students respond to the reading by answering comprehension questions and by using the story as inspiration for their own writing.

Springboard to the Next Level
The last module of Level B acts as a springboard to later grades. Lessons are longer than they have been up to this point, and they have a more mature, intricate structure. This includes varied selection types and more involved comprehension lessons.

Reading, Levels C through H
