Research and Evaluation

Research

Our programs are based on leading educational research including research from the National Reading Panel, the National Research Council, and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

The Learn It Reading program comprehensively addresses the findings of the National Reading Panel and the five key concepts necessary for a successful reading program: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary and Comprehension.

Learn It Math is supported by research on cognitive development and the learning of mathematics. Much of the research has been cited by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and the National Research Council. All assert that problem solving is central and indispensable to the learning of school mathematics, and that even young children can engage in substantial problem solving. In keeping with this research, Learn It Math emphasizes choosing specific strategies that relate to particular math situations. These include strategies for understanding problems, representing problems, breaking down multi-step problems, and interpreting data to solve problems. Research also places an emphasis on flexible estimation, the importance of organizing and reducing data, recognizing patterns and trends in data, and making inferences and predictions. In response to the research, Learn It Math provides instruction and practice in constructing, reading, and interpreting a wide range of graphs, and uses these graphs throughout as sources of data used to solve problems. Learn It Math places a repeated and cumulative stress on mental math and estimation as strategic problem-solving skills, and includes open-ended assessments in which students are encouraged to choose solution paths and taught how to explain their reasoning and justify their conclusions.

Program evaluation

At Learn It Systems, improving the academic performance of every student we serve is our top priority. We evaluate students using our customized assessment which is based on local content standards. This ensures that Learn It Systems aligns our curriculum with the material each child is learning in the classroom. We also listen to parents, principals, and school staff on how we can improve our program. Each year, we evaluate our the success of our program, look for innovative solutions, and determine methods to improve our program for students and parents.
